Contrast Hydrotherapy in our CRYOTherm Cold2Warm unit offers ultimate recovery to those committed to optimal physical fitness and is ideal for athletes looking to improve the performance and intensity of their workouts. Contrast therapy is a series of brief, repeated immersions in water, alternating between warm and cold temperatures. When you submerge part or all of your body in cold water, small blood vessels (capillaries) respond to the cold by getting smaller (vasoconstriction). When you submerge yourself in warm/hot water, the opposite happens. Your blood vessels open up (vasodilation). Alternating between hot-water and cold-water, your blood vessels open and close in a pulsing, pump-like motion. It is believed that this pumping action can help relieve various symptoms. Intense exercise causes tears in muscles producing muscle soreness, swelling, and inflammation. Alternating hot and cold temperatures have been shown to lessen muscle fatigue, decrease pain and swelling, and reduce inflammation ultimately leading to faster joint and muscle recovery after intense workouts. Our CRYOTherm Cold2Warm unit is medical grade and FDA-approved cryotherapy modality. It is recommended to alternate 3:1 in the contrast hydrotherapy tubs. 3 minutes hot followed by 1 minute cold. Repeat for up to 30 minutes.
